Do You Have A Fool For A Client?

I spend a lot of time on the phone with For Sale By Owners, the strategy itself seems quite strange to me. I mean who in their right mind takes on the most important financial decision of their life with no experience or any advice from a professional? They say anyone who wants to represent themselves in court has a fool for a client. Well I’ll take it a step further, and say that anyone that tries to sell their home FSBO is an even bigger fool. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why people would try to do it, the logic seems simple, cut out the middle man and keep the profit for yourself. But following that logic why not save a few pennies, cut out the doctor and do the brain surgery yourself? Let’s be honest the truth behind FSBO’s as we call them is that their cheap, and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. A typical transaction takes approximately 30 days for a reason, and that doesn’t include the time it takes answering phone calls, showing people your listing, negotiation contracts and the hundreds of other things needed to be done during a typical transaction. When you add up the time it takes away from someone’s actual job, you could easily prove that most FSBO’s are actually losing money trying to sell their home. According to NAR over %92 of all FSBO’s end up hiring a Real Estate agent to sell their home anyway and that stat alone makes them a juicy source of business, it you can put up with the nonsense of %99 of them, that %1 can turn your business into a goldmine. I know it’s difficult, FSBO’s can be annoying and for the most part you’re fighting an uphill battle, but if you can hang in there and you have a knack for meeting interesting people FSBO’s just might be for you.
